If that pickup is full of debris or blocked up, you know exactly what your problem is.See how Kinsta stacks up against the competition. So if your OPEL corsa has this strange misfire issue, we would first test out the coil pack, then we would remove the sump to inspect the oil pickup pipe. It didn’t cost me anything to fix it really other than some new engine oil, a filter, and some petrol to use as a cleaning fluid, but its so often the case with these thing. we think its fixed, we hope its fixed, we shall see! We have ran the car a fair bit now and it has been clear of the engine warning light saga, which is fantastic, but it took a fair amount of time and effort to actually fix it. After about 40 minutes we came back out to the Opel Corsa and it was still clear of the damn engine warning light, and my scanner gave me no pending error codes. we came back out about 10 minutes later and found it didn’t have the engine warning light on, so we walked away leaving it running to get some food.

We started it up, sat there in the drivers seat with my scanner watching the engine light with hope for about 5 minutes, then walked away to make another brew. So we rebuilt all the intake side, cleaning out the throttle body, testing and inspecting the throttle control solenoid and TPS throttle position sensor – why not while its all apart. As a long shot we took the inlet manifold off and checked the inside of it for any blockages from EGR valve scum, or some thing else which could be causing combustion failure by maybe stopping the air entering the cylinder. So clutching at straws now we decided to test some other sensor and hardware. So this proves the injector electronics is working perfectly fine.

So we ran the car like this, it runs just the same, except it doesn’t turn injector number 4 off, and it gives us the error code “Multiple random misfires detected” as the ecu cannot determine between the fire stroke of cylinder 4 or cylinder 1.

With this sensor unplugged the ECU now sparks 1 and 4 at the same time, then 2 and 3 at the same time, it does the same with the injectors too. And from my experience ECU’s are very rare to fail.īut then we came up with a way to test the ECU without a new ECU… if you unplug the cam sensor (or cylinder position sensor as its really called) then the engine cannot determine which cycle the engine is on, but as a fail safe the ECU drops back to what we call the “wasted spark” and “wasted squirt fall back mode”. Problem is in order to test the ECU we would have to swap in another one, complete with the immobilizer components and key code etc which would be expensive and time consuming – yet we have ZERO proof that the ecu is at fault. Nothing stood out but that doesn’t completely prove that the ECU is fine. Then we pulled the ECU apart which we closely inspected for any broken circuitry, corrosion, failed components etc.

So we tested the wiring to the 4th injector, following it back to the ECU, it was all fine and in tact with no shorting or loss in continuity. The problem is there somewhere, we just haven’t found it yet. After all this work it left us a little disheartened, but definitely not defeated.
